Ryder Cup 2008 Odds
The Ryder Cup 2008 Odds for this year's Ryder Cup betting match between the Europeans and the USA, has the European team as odds on favourites to retain the trophy and win for the fourth successive time. Nick Faldo finally named his two wildcard picks the other day and caused quite a stir, leaving out Ryder Cup stalwarts, Colin Montgomerie and Darren Clarke, in favour of Ian Poulter and Paul Casey.
Clarke in particular must have been aggrieved, after winning the Dutch KLM Open last week; he must have thought that he had earned a place and it was very clear that he desperately wanted one. In fairness to Faldo however, he has picked two players who are mush higher in the world rankings than either Clarke or Montgomerie and he could justify their selection on that point alone.

It is in many ways a refreshing looking team, with a good blend of experience mixed with four Ryder Cup ‘rookies' in Justin Rose, Graeme McDowell, Soren Hansen and Oliver Wilson.
Six of the team occupy top twenty World rankings and in Padraig Harrington (3), Sergio Garcia (4) and Henrik Stenson (6), they have three of the top six players in the world. The most exciting thing however about the European team is their attitude. The Ryder Cup has means everything to all of these players, they clearly love the thought of playing together as a team, they get on well with each other on tour meaning that the Americans will have to be at their very best to win. The fact that the Europeans have one of the golfing greats as Captain is another reason why they will play in inspired fashion. Europe are 5/6, while the USA can be backed at 7/5. A tie, which would mean Europe retaining the trophy is a 12/1 shot. Garcia at 5/1 is favourite to be Europe's top player, while Harrington is at 11/2 and Lee Westwood is 7/1.
