Nunthorpe Stakes Tip
Our Nunthorpe Stakes tip for this Friday's Coolmore Nunthorpe Strakes betting race over five furlongs at York this coming Friday is the John Best trained, Kingsgate Native. With the meeting in utter turmoil following severe rain, the ground at best will be soft and that fact alone will rule out several of the fancied horses. The York officials are trying desperately to accommodate the full card, but if they are to do so, they are almost certain to have to race on Saturday and possible even use the services of another racecourse. It is a great pity, as the race cards for all four days of the meeting looked top quality and the 100.000 spectators who had been expected will be hugely disappointed.
Meanwhile John Best remains quietly confident over the chances of Kingsgate Native, despite admitting that he had no idea if he would go on the Knavesmire ground. He said he is hopeful that his horse would be ok, he had been ridden out on the soft at home and the suggestion was that he would be fine. The Kent trainer seems determined to allow him to take his chance. Best has two runners in the race, the other, the two year old, Flashman's Paper's was the shock 100/1 winner of the Windsor Stakes and his pedigree suggests that he can run on the ground and running of a low weight in heavy ground might well prove to be a big advantage.
