Football Championship Odds
The football Championship odds at the start of this new 2008/9 season reveal that Alex McLeish is expected to take Birmingham City straight back into the Premier League. The' Blues' are just about favourites at around 6/1 but the betting is very close between them and QPR. Reading, Sheffield United, Derby and Crystal Palace are just behind. The Championship which kicks off this Saturday will almost certainly be a very competitive affair with very little to choose between many of the teams. QPR who have Iain Dowie at the helm seem to be a very ambitious club with a very ambitious Chairman in Flavio Briatore. They pulled off one of the surprise loan transfers of the pre-season when snapping up the highly promising midfield player, Daniel Munoz from Spanish giants Real Madrid. Munoz had an outstanding season last year when playing for Real's nursery team Castilla. He could be the hottest player in the League this season.

QPR kick off their season with a home match against Barnsley, who despite being second favourites to make the drop this season could prove to be a tough opposition for the opening match. Barnsley flirted with relegation last year but at least if the rallying call from Captain, Stephen Foster is anything to go by then they will be looking for a win.
The Championship is definitely the most difficult league to get promoted from but it is not the hardest league to get relegated. Most of the teams are capable of beating each other on the day and fans from all over can expect many surprising results. The bet that looks the most attractive from a neutral point of view is the 20/1 offered about Bristol City. They came very close last season and if they continue to progress then they could upset the odds quite easily. The favourites for relegation are Blackpool. Odds as they stand are:
Championship Outright: 6/1 Birmingham, 13/2 QPR, 7/1 Reading, 12/1 Sheff Utd, 14/1 Derby, 14/1 C Palace, 14/1 Wolves.
