The PGA Championship odds has Phil Mickelson as favourite to win his 4th Major tournament this week at the course known as the ‘monster' at Oakland Hills. Mickelson who came 4th last week at the WGC Bridgestone event looked good to win but lost his touch and dropped 3 shots in the last four holes. This allowed Vijay Singh to return to winning ways and he pipped Britain's Lee Westwood by one shot to win. Mickelson is as short as 10/1 to win which is not too generous for a man who has not won a major for several years. Ireland's Padraig Hamilton is next in the betting at 20/1 while the other two top Europeans in the betting, Sergio Garcia and Westwood are around the 25/1 mark.

Punters should note that no European has won this event for over 70 years. Tiger Woods of course will be missing once more and it has become clear that his absence is affecting the tour. Woods has been the winner of the last two PGA's and it will be a somewhat hollow victory when the winner puts away his last putt on Sunday. One player who has been catching the eye all season and who is having some very consistent results is American, Anthony Kim. He is twice a winner this year on tour and acquitted himself very well over the tough links of Royal Birkdale last month, he can be backed at 33/1 in places to win this week. With the Ryder Cup looming there will be several European players strutting their stuff this week attempting to qualify. Those that played in the Ryder Cup victory in 2004 will have more confidence than others as they know the course and were able to defeat the Americans big time. In theory this should make a European victory more likely, let's hope so!
