Galway Plate Tips
Two Galway Plate tips are put up for consideration this year, firstly, we believe that some money has to be invested on the Paul Nicholls trained Oslot. He is favourite of course, but his odds are pretty good and with the record of the Nicholls yard in big races he is difficult to oppose. Nicholls is almost to jump racing what Aiden O'Brien is to the flat. Jockey Ruby Walsh is a big race specialist and he will want to be top jockey this year at Galway. We just do not see Nicholls coming to Galway without his horses giving their best and at around 6/1 his odds are more than worthy a sizeable wager.

We suspect that he will not be too popular a winner however and our other tip, Ansar is the reason why. The Dermot Weld trained, twice Galway Plate winner returns to battle for his third Plate and the romantic in us say that the mature horse can come very close.

There is little doubting his course experience and his winning credentials. It should be remembered that he also won the Galway Hurdle way back in 2001 and has an astonishing seven wins in total around Galway. He was also 4th in the Plate last year. Ansar has had two very good warm up runs and will be carrying less weight than last year and his chances are still very bright despite his 12 years. Legendary Galway trainer, Dermot Weld thinks it is a horses for courses situation and Ansar will have a big run on a course that he simply loves. It will be a great race.
