The Open Odds
The Open odds for this weeks British Open betting Major, has the plucky Spaniard, Sergio Garcia favourite at 11/1 to become the first Spaniard since Severiano Ballesteros to win the Claret Jug. Garcia came very close last year at Carnoustie to winning his first Major, but was beaten in a sudden death play off with Irishman, Padraig Harrington, perhaps this year he will go one better. He certainly would be a popular winner and punters should be aware that if they back him they could double up on their bet and get 9/1 on any Spaniard winning the Open with VC bet.
Latest British Open Odds Comparison
Without Tiger Woods in the field the tournament has truly become an Open in every sense and the winner could come from anywhere. In fact the Europeans have never won a British Open at this course and with the exception of Aussie, Ian Baker-Finch in 1991, all the winners have come from the 'States. The Americans these days though have a worsening reputation on Links courses and if the course at Royal Birkdale plays up this week it is difficult to see any of them win. Phil Mickelson is the top priced American at 16/1 but it should be remembered that he was 79th last time the Open was played here.

Padraig Harrington has been very sensible in his Open defence warm up. Last weekend he played and won the Irish PGA title, a somewhat low key event but one which gave him invaluable practice ahead of the Open this week. If he were to defend his title he would join a whole crop of illustrious past champions, including Tom Watson, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. Even the great Jack Nicklaus was unable to win two Opens in a row! Harrington is 20/1 with Paddy Power BookmakersPaddypower to retain his crown and we think that these are very good odds for a man who has just found his form.
