Open Golf Odds
The Open Golf Odds for this week's British Open Golf Championship at Royal Birkdale has Sergio Garcia as 9/1 favourite ahead of Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson. Garcia who was runner up last year at Carnoustie, to Ireland's Padraig Harrington, has been in excellent form in 2008, he has only missed one cut all season and won the Players Championship in May and was runner up in the European Open 2 weeks ago. The Spaniard is one of those players who if he does not take a Major Championship soon , will be tagged in the same way as Colin Montgomerie as one of the best never to win an major. He would certainly be a popular winner after his play off defeat to Harrington last year, but even without Tiger Woods in the field it will be a tough ask of him. Harrington himself returned to winning ways last weekend when winning the Irish PGA. It was his first victory of the season and although the competition standard was not that high, it was an excellent preparation for Royal Birkdale links. He is listed as a 14/1 shot to retain the Claret Jug.

Ernie Els who is a 11/1 second favourite for the Open showed good form last weekend when finishing in the top ten in the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond. Although Ernie won the Honda Classic on the US PGA tour this year, his form has been patchy and this performance might mark a well timed return to form.
World number 2 Phil Mickelson, also played at Loch Lomond and although he finished respectfully, he never really threatened the leaders, but he remains one of the golfing greats of our time, with Mickelson anything is possible at anytime.
Graham McDowell, who won the Scottish Open by two strokes and was 3rd last week in the European Open is clearly in great form and should not be missed as a 60/1 each way bet!
