British Open Golf Odds
The British Open Golf Odds for next weeks British Open shows that former winner, Ernie Els is second favourite at around 11/1. The big South African has been in mixed form this season, but did win the Honda Classic in America and has retained a top ten world ranking. Close behind him in the betting is three times Major winner and world number two, Phil Mickelson, who returns to Royal Birkdale having finished 79th last time it was played there. He is still looking for his first British Open win but in fairness it is a tournament where he does not necessarily produce his best. Defending Champion, Padraig Harrington has had a mediocre time of it since winning at Carnoustie last year, but if he can successfully defend his title, he will join a very elite bunch of players, Tiger Woods, Tom Watson, Lee Trevino and Arnold Palmer for instance

Sergio Garcia will also vie for favouritism this week. He has been in great form and is very anxious not to earn the same tag as Colin Montgomerie as one of the best player's never to have won a Major tournament. Sergio is currently 9/1 to break his duck this year. In fact he and Lee Westwood seem the most likely Europeans to triumph this year. Westwood has been Mr consistent this year and although yet to win, he has something like nine top ten finishes including a magnificent 3rd in the US Open and an 8th place in the US Masters.
The Royal Birkdale Open of 1998, was the tournament that shot Justin Rose to fame. He finished the tournament in a tie for 4th place and at the time was a 17 year old amateur. Unfortunately for Justin he has never been able to repeat that form as a professional, although he has had some excellent results over the last 2 years. Current odds as they stand are: 9/1 Garcia, 11/1 Els, 14/1 Mickelson, Westwood, Harrington, 20/1 Furyk, Rose, Vijay Singh, 28/1 Ogilvy, Karlsson, Scott.
