Eclipse Stakes Tip
The Elipse Stakes Tip for this Saturday's Eclipse betting race is the Aiden O'Brien trained King of Rome. This may surprise some punters particularly as O'Brien has indicated, quite strongly that Mount Nelson is likely to be the Ballydoyle leading contender in the race. However after Frozen Fire's win in the Irish Derby last weekend it is difficult to tell who really is the lead O'Brien horse, particulerly as he has three runners in the race. It may therefore be worth looking to the odds rather than the horse. Mount Nelson has been installed as 7/2 favourite, but King of Rome is a 16/1 shot currently. Backers may well remember the Eclipse win by Oratorio, who, like King of Rome, performed badly in the Derby and then bounced straight back to win this Group One. We think King of Rome can do the same. Mount Nelson only managed 5th behind Haradasun in the Queen Ann at Royal Ascot, which is good form but not great. Certainly not good enough form to necessarily put us off King of Rome

Perhaps it may be worthwhile to look at the other contenders, particularly those of Henry Cecil. He runs Phoenix Tower, a 4/1 second favourite, who was second in the Prince of Wales at Royal Ascot last week. The stable are confident that he will come on for the race and in many ways it will be nice to see Cecil get the drop on O'Brien for a change.
Godolphin horses can almost be forgotten, the form of the stable continues to worry many in racing and with only one Group One winner this year, the stable is slowly losing its reputation. We are going to stick with King of Rome and may back him each way.
