The Eclipse Stakes Odds for this weeks Eclipse betting race make very interesting reading. Henry Cecil’s Phoenix Tower, 2nd behind Duke of Marmalade in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot 2 weeks ago and John Gosden’s, Pipedreamer, look set to do battle once again in the big Group One race at Sandown Park this weekend. At present, Phoenix Tower is sharing favouritism with the Ballydoyle trained and much fancied, Mount Nelson at 4/1. Ballydoyle have been taking everything of late, they had a magnificent time at the Royal meeting and then went on, somewhat mob handed it should be said, to win the Irish Derby last Sunday with Frozen Fire. Based on their continued and emphatic form it is hard to oppose them, particularly as they are also likely to run King of Rome and Plan as well. Plan will probably be used as a pacemaker. King of Rome is 16/1, but Plan is listed at 100/1 – is this possible for an Aiden O’Brien trained horse? Mount Nelson was a very impressive 5th behind Haradasun at Royal Ascot and like all O’Brien’s horses he will come on for the run.

Cecil also intends to run Multidimensional, who should come on for his Hardwicke Stakes run at Royal Ascot last week. He could well face a renewal, with Sir Michael Stoute’s, Maraahel. They were second and third respectively in the Hardwicke. Godolphin have four who have stood their ground for the race, including Campanologist and Literato.
Odds go 4/1 Phoenix Tower, 4/1 Mount Nelson, 5/1 Multidimensional, 11/2 Pipedreamer, 10/1 Literato, 12/1 Campanologist, 12/1 Maraahel, 16/1 Bar.
