Wimbledon Tennis Womens Odds
The Wimbledon Tennis Womens odds have third seed, Maria Sharapova as 9/4 favourite in what could be a wide open tournament this year. Since the retirement of Justine Henin, no single woman has dominated Ladies tennis this year, Sharapova won in Australia, but it was newly installed world Number 1, Ana Ivanovic who won the French crown on the clay. Sharapova of course has the won at Wimbledon before and although not having a great time of it in the French Open, she showed enough to suggest that she could be back to her best in time for Wimbledon. Reigning Champion, Venus Williams and who has won here four times is quoted as a 5/1 shot to retain her title is surprisingly seeded down at 7, while sister and twice winner, Serena, is seeded sixth, but is second favourite in the betting at 11/4.

Clearly there is some disparity between the bookmakers and the Wimbledon seedings committee of who will win the crown this year. Ivanovic, who was very impressive when winning the French and will not be overawed by playing on grass. Her baseline game is as good as most and she does have a style that suggests that she come to the net on occasions. She is quoted at between 5 and 6/1 and that represents good value. Marion Bartoli, surprise finalist last year is seeded 11th but is a whacking 100/1 shot to win the tournament, perhaps a very good each way bet to be had on her. Another who if she can continue where she left off in France is Dinara Safina. She earned a great reputation in France by coming back in matches against seeded players, including Sharapova, and winning. She eventually lost in the final. She is seeded ninth and can be backed at 25/1.
