Trent Bridge is not England’s favourite ground. They have won only 16 of 53 Tests played there and have lost 21. Fortunately however for England, five of those wins came against New Zealand and they have only ever lost to them once before at this ground. That was back in 1986 and the Kiwi side of 2008 do not look in the same league as their predecesors.

There have been some questions mark over the quality of the pitch, but if it plays well then it might help the swing bowlers. James Anderson is likely to come in for some stick from the NZ bowlers after he knocked two of New Zealander batsman’s, Danny Flynne’s teeth out with a ferocious delivery at Old Trafford. He will do well to come out of the test unbruised.

Arguments still persist about the form of Kevin Pietersen. He has not had a good knock for some time and his technique seems to be coming under more pressure. He is favourite to be England’s top batsman this week at 7/2, but the same odds can be had with in form batsman, Andrew Strauss, who on the evidence is a much better bet at the price.

As for the ‘Kiwi’s they have had their chances to win both the tests so far and they will not come into this overawed. In Ross Taylor they have a real batting talent and he could become a real nuisance factor for the England attack, especially if NZ bat first. He is best priced at 4/1 to finish as top batsman for NZ.
