Next Man City Manager Odds

The next Man City Manager odds swung dramatically yesterday in favour of Blackburn Rovers manager, Mark Hughes.

With the Club confirming Sven Goran Eriksson’s departure yesterday, rumours immediately circulated that City were courting Hughes and it appears that they have gone a long way down the road. It is understood that Hughes got the permission of the Blackburn board to talk to City and at one stage it was just a question of dotting the ‘I’s and crossing the T’s.

Man City is an ambitious club and believes that Hughes is the man to take them further down the road. He has had a successful period with Blackburn, where although he has never won a trophy he did secure Blackburn as a top ten club and proved that he has a good ‘eye’ in the transfer market. Hughes feels that he has taken Blackburn as far as he can and is ready for a fresh challenge.

The only doubt it seems now is that Hughes might also be the number one target for Chelsea too, speculation was rife yesterday that Chelsea have been in dialogue with Hughes and it seems that they were about to do battle with City for his signature.

If Chelsea were to snap Hughes up, under the nose of City, then City may well rue their treatment of Sven Goran Eriksson, they will have to act very quickly to have someone appointed because they and their perplexed fans will want the speculation to end and to get on with adding some much needed stability to the club. Despite the Chelsea factor, Hughes is still clear favourite to take over at City and is around ‘even money’ to do so.
