The 2008 Derby runners became a lot clearer today at the five day declartion stage when we had a surprise entry. Eighteen horses were present at the five-day stage for the Derby at Epsom on Saturday with former ante-post favourite New Approach being reinstated in the betting at 5/1 with online bookmaker Stan James after being left in the Classic by trainer Jim Bolger and it was later revelled that it was Jim's decision to run the horse. As expected, favourite Casual Conquest 11/4 and Doctor Fremantle 10/1 were supplemented along with River Proud 33/1 which adds a further £225,000 to the prize fund.

With New Approach being left in the race Stan James has eased Sir Michael Stoute to win the Classic to 9/4 (from 2/1) with Tartan Bearer 5/1, Tajaaweed 6/1 or Doctor Fremantle. Stan James UK PR Manager Laura Stephens said: "It's great for the race that New Approach looks likely to run at Epsom. He was the ante-post favourite over the winter but Curtain Call will still be our biggest loser."
