Irish 2000 Guineas Odds
The Irish 2000 guineas odds still have New Approach and Henrythenavigator at the top of the market. Their second battle takes place this Saturday at The Curragh and promises to be a mouth watering race. At the end of the Newmarket 2000 Guineas, Jim Bolger, trainer of New Approach, said that the defeat to Henrythenavigator, was “only round one”, meaning that New Approach will avenge his only defeat here.
The Bookmakers seem to think so too and have him at a 5/4 favourite against the 13/8 offered for Henrythenavigator. Next in the betting is Dermot Weld’s Famous Name, who is a 7/1 chance, suggesting that the Irish Classic is a two horse race. But is it?
David Elsworth has had his Stubbs Art, supplemented for the race, he was third at Newmarket and connections say that he has come on lots for that race and is sure to go even better here. He is 16/1 and has to be worth an each way shot at that price. Nownownow, trained by David Wachman is another with a big chance. Wachman hopes that the colt can earn his second high profile win in his first taste of Irish racing. Nownownow won the Breeders Cup in America last season and denied Aiden O’Brien’s Achill Island a big overseas win. Wachman is delighted with the colt; he has been pleasing on the gallops and comes to The Curragh in fine shape. He too is a 16/1 shot. Famous Name is unlikely to run unless the ground eases, but he was a very impressive Group three winner recently.

We all seem to have forgotten Jupiter Pluvius, it should be remembered that he was Aiden O’Brien’s main challenger for the Newmarket 2000 Guineas but was withdrawn, if he runs here then despite, stable jockey, Johnny Murtagh, sticking with Henrythenavigator, he has to be considered. He is 10/1 to win the race.
Ibn Khaldun, the Godolphin entrant has been withdrawn from the race.
