Portsmouth have had a very good season, but slipped a little at the end, losing a couple of games that they would have normally been favourites to win. It suggests that they have been prioritising this match and it is known that they have been resting players to keep them fit for the final. A European place is what Pompey had in their sights at the start of the season and although they can still qualify for Europe via the Inter-Toto qualifying route, an FA Cup Final Win guarantee’s them an automatic place. The European factor will be a major motivating factor for both teams, but particularly for Pompey, who are probably a better equipped side for Europe than Cardiff.
