Dante Odds
The Dante Odds for this week’s Dante Stakes race at York, have Henry Cecil’s, Twice Over, as clear Odds on favourite for this race. If he wins however, will it make the Derby picture any clearer? Twice Over remains favourite for the Epsom Classic and a really good run here will consolidate his reputation. This Group Two race, that is still regarded as the Premier Derby Trial, will be a test for him as the race has attracted several good looking horses.
“He’s fine and is on course for the Dante at the moment,” said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah. His gallop runs have been very encouraging too and his form has received at least two boosts over the last week or so. Firstly, Raven’s Pass, behind Twice Over in the Craven, was far from disgraced when finishing fourth to Henrythenavigator from a poor draw in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket , while Austintatious, runner-up to Twice Over on his debut last October, won nicely at Kempton last Monday.
The Sir Michael Stoute 3 year old Tartan Bearer, takes on Twice Over in the Dante and is quoted at around 9/2 to win. Tartan Bearer had a very impressive season reappearance at Leicester, when he surged clear of the pack to win easily. It was his second race after running second, in an eye catching performance as a 2 year old.
