The Derby betting took another twist today as at last we saw a genuine Derby candidate at Leopardstown this afternoon. The Dermot Weld trained Casual Conquest who turned the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial into a procession, but the unbeaten colt is not entered at Epsom and it remains unclear whether or not he will be supplemented for the Vodafone sponsored Classic. He was introduced into the Derby betting at 6/1 with Stan James although the Irish and French equivalents are also under consideration.

In the other Derby trial at Lingfield at the weekend Stan James were unimpressed with Derby Trial victor Alessandro Volta (unchanged at 16s for Derby) following today's totesport sponsored events. Head of PR Charlie McCann said "It is unlikely that we have seen either the Oaks or Derby winner in action this afternoon although tomorrow's Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial could shed more light on the colts' classic.
