2000 Guineas Tip

One 2000 Guineas tip is the highly rated Godolphin colt, Ibn Khaldun. Now that Godolphin have confirmed that Frankie Dettori will ride him in the 2000 Guineas, speculation has increased that he could be a real challenger to the ever warming favourite, New Approach.

Godolphin admit that the race is ultra competitive and if Ibn Khaldun is to win then he needs to have improved a lot since last season's Racing Post Trophy; they think he has! He will go to Newmarket very fit and very well and has a big chance.

One big pointer is that Frankie Dettori preferred to ride Ibn Khaldun ahead of stable mate, Fast Company, who many argue was very unlucky not to get the better of New Approach in last season's Dewhurst. Fast Company is now unlikely to run, but Ibn will take on the field as Godolphin's number one. Another pointer is the odds, Ibn Khaldun has steadily moved in price and is now listed as a 5/1 chance, he has come in 2 points very quickly and is almost certain to get shorter. Our advice is to get on him now rather than later.

Meanwhile, there have been some encouraging reports from other stables. Andrew Balding thinks he has a good horse in Dream Eater. He is currently 66/1 but according to Balding he has moved on considerably over the winter and he believes he is the best horse they have in the yard. Andrew Balding's stable is in great form at the moment and an each way bet looks like a good thing here.

There are a few ground worries emerging for 2nd favourite Ravens Pass. He has looked very impressive on fast ground, but current reports from Newmarket suggest that the ground may be good and good to soft in places, with more rain expected. This is not good news at all for the highly fancied colt.
