Grand Natonal
The Grand Natonal is the biggest horse racing betting event in the World. The 2008 Grand Natonal sees a field of 40 go to post with only 18 pounds separating all the runners. This compressed handicap essentially means that horses higher up the handicap this year have a much better chance than normal. In the last 20 years you could count on the one hand the number of horses who carried more than 11 stone to win the Grand National. As such, this year a horse higher up the weights may well win.

Cloudy Lane is the form horse and will be sent off the shortest priced favourite since Red Rum 30 years ago. His current price is 5/1 and we can not see that getting any shorter. It would make a great GrandNational story should he win as he is trained by the McCain family who also trained Red Rum to 3 Grand National victories.
Irish trained horses have a great record in the race in recent years, as since 2000 the Irish have saddled 5 winners. The leading Irish horse is Slim Pickings who is second favourite for the race having finished 3rd in last years race.
