This means that Hedgehunter the 2005 winner who carries top weight of 12 stone is not as disadvantaged as is normally the case and this makes it a much more open race with far more horses in with a chance of winning. What this means for the punter is that the job of selecting the winner is going to be far more difficult to pick a winner.

Tom Taaffe, the trainer of one of the favourites in Slim Picking reported on attheraces that his horse was in good shape and he will be ridden by Barry Geraghty. Slim Pickings finished third in last year's National and was right there at the last but just could not quicken after the last. Slim Picking is around the 12/1 mark for the race and he has a couple of really good things going for him in that he has done well over the Aintree National fences last year and is the right age for a winner of this race at 9 years old. He also carries a reasonable weight at 11 stone 3 pounds.
