Simon Grand National Odds

The Simon Grand National odds for the 2008 Grand National make him one of the favourites. His lofty position in the betting at around 16/1 is partly due to his very good run in the race last year where he was running really well until falling at Valentine's on the second circuit. In last years national he travelled and jumped like he was a natural at the Aintree fences, he was going really nicely and had still not been asked anything like a serious question when he came down at Valentines. Simon's last race was the Racing Post Chase, where he was looking to become the first back to back winner since Docklands Express in the early 90s. Simon was having to carry 8lb more in the race this year but he lost his place completely after being prominent early when he came under strong pressure, but he did stayed on really well up the straight and ran an encouraging Grand National trial.

Simon's regular jockey Andrew Thornton is injured and as such connections will have to look for a substitute on National day. This could be a dream ride for someone and it will be interesting to see who they jock up for the big day.
