In his last race before the Cheltenham Ladbrokes World Hurdle he ran in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham in January which included Blazing Bailey who had beaten Inglis Drever in this race a year ago. There was no slip ups in this race this year, although not without giving his supporters their usual anxious spell when he hit the traditional flat spot.
Richard Johnson, on board for the first time, was pushing and shoving at the top of the hill and seemingly going nowhere. But the picture changed dramatically by the second last and when Blazing Bailey went to the front he was able to cover the move in second. In front well before the last, he jumped that one four clear and stayed on strongly up the hill for what was ultimately a comfortable win.
