The Paddy Power Gold Cup odds for this Grade Three Chase at Cheltenham on Sunday now has the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Ballyfitz at the head of the market after his trainer gave a very bullish interview regarding the horses chances. He is now as short as 6/1 with Ladbrokes for the race.. Ballyfitz a 9 year old has been likened to Imperial Commander, who won the race last year and has been showing great improvement in training. That said he was last seen pulling up in the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, when well beaten and although his form was reasonable beforehand, he has only ever won a race at Novice Chase level and that was a year ago on this course

The Paul Nicholls trained duo of Tatenen and Chapoturgeon along with the Edward O'Grady 7 year old, Tranquil Sea all dispue second favouritism ahead of what could be the best race of the weekend. The three are all a best price of 7/1 with the sponsors Paddy Power although it should be said that Tranquil Sea has been backed into 13/2 with several other Bookmakers.

Chapoturgeon was last seen in April when second behind Gauvain in a Class 2 Novices Chase at Cheltenham, but it is widely rumoured that the five year old has progressed superbly through the summer and will run a big race. Tranquil Sea on the other hand has already proven his class. He won a Grade One Novices Chase last season and has already visited the winners enclosure this season after winning a Grade Three at Naas at the end of October.

Nicholls also has the once highly regarded Tatenen in the race. He has excellent form in the book, particularly with his second place behind the brilliant Kalahari King in the Grade One, Maghull Chase at Aintree last April. One time favourite for the 2009 Arkle Chase at Cheltenham, this five year old has a lot more improvement in him and could be the one to be on; he is a best price of 10/1 with VC Bet

The Alan King trained, Tarotino is a horse to follow this season, particularly after dotting up by a massive 18 lengths in the Wynnstay Hunt Handicap Chase back in May. That gave him a hat trick of wins and he comes into this race very highly thought of by his connections. Tarotino can be backed currently at 7/1 with Paddy Power.

Most of the contenders in this race will be aimed at Cheltenham Festival in March and this race therefore will be a good form indicator.
