The Cesarewitch odds took a change on Thursday following the draw for the race. The Marcus Tregoning trained Colt has been drawn 14 of the 35 declared runners, but no horse has won the 2m 2f event having been drawn lower than 18 in the past ten years. The son of Montjeu has been on an upward curve all summer and still looks as though he was ahead of the handicapper when winning at Great Leighs last month. Most bookmakers remain fairly short on him winning after a huge gambles in the antepost book will mean they face huge liabilities but Ladbrokes are the bravest bookie offering best odds of 5/1.
Bookmaker's reported on Friday that the David Pipe trained Mamlook had been well backed having been dealt a favourable draw, running from stall 28. David's father, Martin Pipe, trained the winner of the Cesarewitch in 2000 and 2002 and it would come as no surprise if this family continued their good record in this event with Mamlook who has done the majority of his racing over hurdles but showed enough in a flat race at Ascot last time out to suggest he is good enough to make a bold bid and the generally available 8/1 looks a fair price.
Gee Dee Nen has been the subject of plenty of support in the weeks leading up to this race and a big run can be expected from the Jim best and Frankie Dettori partnership, the price ranges from as short as 6/1 to best odds of 8/1 with Sportingbet. Arc Bleu is another one to look out for in the betting and the Northumberland Plate winner heads the trio of Tony Martin trained horses who come over from Ireland.
