Victor Chandler have laid one of the biggest golf bets of the season prior to the USPGA Championships at the Southern Hills course in Tulsa. One of their high staking clients has bet £200,000 at 2/1 that Tiger Woods will pick up his first major of the season. Woods is now a 7/4 chance.

Golf odds compiler Richard Friend explained: “We are used to decent sized bets on the Majors, but even we were surprised by the scale of this one. But we were not going to shy away from a bet of this magnitude on Woods and we were happy to lay the bet. Despite his emphatic victory last week, we still feel it’s a good time to take him on.”

The firm had already fielded several five figures wagers on Woods for the USPGA straight after his stunning victory last weekend at Firestone, and they fear the take out could approach the million mark by the weekend. Friend added, “The big hitters have wagered some serious money on Woods in each of this year’s Majors and so far he hasn’t delivered the goods. They think he’ll get things right this time, and they could be out in force. It’s going to be a nervous week-end for the layers.”
