Nancy Dell'Olio has dominated much of the column inches about Strictly Come Dancing this year, even appearing on The Graham Norton Show, alongside national treasure Joanna Lumley last night, but to her chagrin this does not mean that she has been embraced by the British public or that she has any chance of winning the series. According to bookmakers Paddy Power that honour is being hotly contended by McFly band member Harry Judd and Jason Donovan at odds of 2/1 and 15/8 respectively.
Nancy Dell'Olio may have hoped that an interview with Norton would have propelled her into the viewers hearts and encourage them to vote for her, much in the same way that they sustained Ann Widdecombe to the far reaches of the show last year, but she is sadly misinformed. Norton was as confused by the self styled Italian siren as everyone else. Being enigmatic is altogether different from being an enigma and thisis unfortunately the mantle she will continue to wear after the Irish man's chat show. Being 'odd' is just not enough to win over the viewers, Norton certainly seemed untouched by her ramblings.
Jason and Harry by contrast show not only a great flair for their dancingescapades but show conviction, discipline, humility and good humour when unpicked by judges Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Alesha Dixon. Harry started out as favourite to win at the outset, presumably because he was expected to bring a raft of McFly fans with him, but even he seems urprised at the ease with which he is overcoming the dancing hurdles that are put in front of him. Jason's ability is less unexpected with a career that has seen him on the West End stage on a nuber of occasions, but his sense of fun and decency that came out whilst on 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here'has once agin served him well.
Holly Valance who was also an early favourite, on the back of her apparent similarity to last year's winner Kara Tointon, both physically and professionally has done well but not well enough to stop her sliding down the leaderboard to fourth place at Odds of 8/1. She has been overtaken by Chelsee Healey at odds of 6/1 to win after her sparkling performance last weekend during which she secured the first ten of the series. Waterloo Rd actress Healey gave a storming show but will have to master the ballroom dances as well, which as yet has not been evident.
Robbie Savage has also overtaken Valance, which for a man used to fighting his way up the league table is renewing and unleashing his competitive edge. Whilst the judges are yet to be convinced of his ability the audience are thoroughly enjoying watching the self conscious hard man of football loosen up and embrace a theatrical side of his character. Used to the hard regime of football training Savage will not be phased by the hours of technical dance training and now that he is seeing results is sure to push harder. With a halloween theme tonight expect fireworks and drama and a more savage Savage
