Ryder Cup Novelty Betting: First European To Down Guiness

Everything is primed for the spectacle that is The Ryder Cup. The shots of the American team arriving with their partners, except of course Tiger Woods who was conspicuously alone, are splashed across the media and Celtic Manor is bristling with activity. Unsurprisingly bookmakers Paddy Power are offering several markets on the sporting event itself, but as usual as an alternative to those keen to challenge their sporting knowledge, they are also offering Ryder Cup Novelty Betting, in particular on the first European team member to down a pint of Guiness on camera!

Noticeably Montgomerie is some way down the list at 14/1 but it is some surprise that Martin Kaymer and Rory McIlroy are not higher given that Paddy Power have them as 5/1 favourites to be the highest European scorers during the tournament. It would be usual for those who have made most points for a Ryder Cup winning team to receive extensive TV coverage and their celebrations would be expected to involve alcohol. The cynic would suggest that marketing opportunities of this sort will not be lost on the boys from Guiness, so that the Celts on the European team may not be the only ones who find themselves uncharacteristically, holding a pint of the 'black stuff' during their celebrations!
