Royal Wedding Betting: 35 Markets To Choose From

There can be very few circumstances that would explain any citizen being unaware of a certain marriage that is taking place this Friday.  Having started as a slow burner, the excitement about the Royal Wedding has gathered such a pace that it is impossible to avoid on the TV, in the papers or at the supermarket till and it is really no surprise.  GB plc has gone into full swing marketing what is its chief product around the world, pomp and circumstance.  2 billion viewers around the world are expected to tune in to see the ceremony unfold and all the broadcasters, journalists and photographers are set to claim their share of the action.  Unsurprisingly bookmakers Paddy Power, in tune with this trending news are on the case with a remarkable 35 markets on the event.

The Betting Directory has analysed some of these books individually during the run up but now with so little time to kick off it seems more appropriate to highlight the breadth of the punts on offer. Clearly the initial focus on the day will be on 'The Dress' as is true of all weddings and there are several options to gamble on - its colour, the length of the train and of course the designer that Kate has chosen to dress her. Beyond the obvious areas of debate like 'will Kate use the word' obey?' in her vows, 'which music will deliver her down the aisle?' to her future prince and inevitably 'Will It Rain?', a fundamental question in Blighty in April, there are other questions which the average citizen would not expect to encounter. For example, 'Which Tiara Will Kate Wear?', is not a normal concern for the average wedding planner or Mother of the bride, nor is the expectation that the name of the bride will spawn a raft of babies named in her honour.

The normal questions of 'who will catch the bouquet?' and 'who will shed a tear first?' are common to many families throughout the land, but questioning the colour of guest Victoria Beckham's dress or her husband's tie is not something that most would have to concern themselves with.  Picking through the markets, there are certainly some that seem more accessible or predictable than others.  Whilst most honeymooners would have a choice of airlines to take them to their holiday destination according to their purse, it would be difficult to imagine Prince William and Kate Middleton flying off on Easy jet to their new life together.  Virgin at 10/1 would supply the broadsheets and comedians with far too much ammunition and sniggering, but a private charter flight at odds of 8/15 or British Airways at 11/8 seem very viable.

However cynical and unimpressed the country is about the Royal Family and the powers that be, the innate love of pageantry and theatre seeps into the understated comfort zone of the populace and before you know it even the grumpiest find themselves caught up in a bit of metaphorical flag waving.  After all Andrew Lloyd Webber has carved an extraordinary career on the back of the demand for musical theatre and this is one of the few occasions when it actually spills out into the real world.  If Michael Crawford can captivate the world for years as a phantom, then a beautiful young woman, surrounded by the gold and crimson of ceremonial cavalry  dress and centuries of history is obviously going to entrance milions, including those who enjoy a flutter.
