On the back of 17 million viewers for Eastenders Live Anniversary show and markets for 'Who Killed Archie Mitchell', bookmakers Paddy Power are clearly keen to retain some new recruits and are currently offering bets on who will be killed off next in the long running drama.
On the very first show on 19/02/85 the storyline opened with the murder of Reg Cox and ever since over 70 characters have met their end in or around Albert Square. Amongst those killed were Dirty Den who masterfully managed to be killed off twice, as a result of failing ratings and the need to ressurect the character who had been such a favourite. He ultimately met his demise in the Queen Vic as Archie Mitchell did recently.

However since Barbara Windsor announced her retirement from the show this Spring, it would seem entirely fitting that matriach Peggy should be written out in a dramatic way, unless of course she hopes to keep a crack open should she get strapped for cash in the future.
Brother and sister Phil and Sam Mitchell are almost as unpopular as Janine, but it seems hard to believe that the villains of the show will be toppled without any obvious replacement for that role. However actress June Brown , who at 83 plays the role of Dot Branning has surely earned her place in Eastenders history by going with a Bang rather then a Whimper when she eventually decides to retire.
