Whilst there is drama in abundance in the celebrity Big Brother household, ITV 's movie week on reality TV competitor Dancing On Ice did not have quite the same level of Oscar winning performances. Even the presence of Hollywood star Corey Feldman did not engender a red carpet performance. Feldman did escape the dropzone this week, even though he was tipped to leave by bookmakers Paddy Power, although he did have a hissy fit when the judges Katarina Witt, Louie Spence and Robin Cousins doled out the shows lowest ever marks.
Feldman is obviously courting and winning public opinion as it was TV presenter Mark Rhodes and ' poisoned dwarf' ex Dallas actress Charlene Tilton who competed in the skate off. Rhodes lost out to the American star, but it looks unlikely that she will make it to the endgame. There are clearly some characters capable of accomplishment in the world of acting but the severity of the ice is unforgiving and is an enormous obstacle for these egos to overcome. Fortunately for the Big Brother contenders they do not have to contend with the earth moving under their feet, although there may be some, Denise Welch in particular, who may be wishing for the earth to swallow her up.
The movie theme this week gave the various stars a chance to glitz it up, but for many the environment simply was not conducive to them giving an impressive performance. Those who did shine and who continue to have a real chance of being there at the end were Matthew Wolfenden, Jorgie Porter and Chico, whose hopes of a Hollywood career are so remote as to be laughable.
Matthew Wolfenden's odds of winning are shortening each week, now standing at 11/10, a reflection of his earlier career as a gymnast, with Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter not far behind at 13/8. The closest rival to these two front runners is X Factor finalist Chico, who whilst at much longer odds of 7/1 is improving week on week and has the like ability factor which is imperative in the world of Reality TV competition.
Whilst Wolfenden's background was clearly factored into the betting from the outset, he has been favourite from Day 1 with Paddy Power, the element of surprise felt by the audience at Chico 's competence is something that will fuel their support for him.
Obviously the biggest issue for the competitors as the show progresses and the techniques become more challenging is remaining injury free. However impressive Matthew is on his blades, an over enthusiastic spin or jump could mean any trophy hopes are dashed in a moment and the better he gets, the more likely he is to take chances. Early in this series it becomes clear who the front runners are and who are there for the cash, the increased profile and the craich. This year the Main Event is clearly between Porter and Wolfenden , with Chico the understudy who could just get a call if he is lucky.
