The re launch of Big Brother is underway in the guise of the Celebrity edition and bookmakers Paddy Power have the opening favourites Jedward pulling away in the lead with odds of 11/8 that they will be the outright winners with Kerry Katona sitting in second place.
Channel Five took something of a gamble purchasing what for many was seen as a format past it's sell by date and were relying heavily on the celebrities chosen to brew up a television visual storm. As yet it has been more of a storm in a tea cup but this doesn't mean that for the punter there isn't a gamble to be had.
Jedward 's brand of high energy naivety sparks interest with the viewers that other celebrities are unable to muster as they lounge around the BB sofas. Now that the format is so well known and the unpredictability thoroughly predictable, interest is garnered through characters with personality and humour and Jedward certainly seem more interested in having fun than protecting their Celebrity egos.
Kerry Katona, who is slowly pulling herself back from her career suicide, beginning with her involvement on 'Dancing On Ice', is doing well and is second favourite at 7/2. She is manifesting the humour that saw her succeed in 'I'm a Celebrity' and could well improve her position over the coming days as the twins start to get bored and display the truculent side of youth in the house.
It is well worth remembering at this stage of the BB proceedings, that Vinnie Jones looked set to win the Celebrity prize when it was last aired right until the very end of the run, when he suddenly lost out to Alex Reid. At any moment the producers can mix up the dynamics by throwing in a new face and unsettling the karma and will be more likely to do so if one/two of the contestants appear to be too far ahead in the popularity charts.
Paddy Doherty at 3/1 is holding his own in this celebrity world and could be the dark horse but it is more likely that Katona could oust the Irish brothers from the top spot, especially if the public want to feel instrumental in her rise from the ashes. Whilst it may look like a one horse race the producers will do everything to ensure it is not, so Jedward may not be the best punt to take. TOWIE star Amy Childs does not look set to add this crown to her CV and Sally Bercow may rue the day she decided to cross the threshold
