The Eurovision Song Contest, love it or hate it, creeps ever nearer and each country works through its own process to select its 2010 representative. Ireland holds an extraordinary record of winning the competition six times but from a nation with huge musical pride has failed to reach the Eurovision Finals for the past two years.
Clearly face has to be restored and the names appearing on Bookmaker Paddy Power's list of those most likely to represent their country shows a broad based assault.
Mikey Graham of Boyzone fame is clearly seen as the favourite, with an established fanbase and European publicity but his chart success and self penned contribution is not necessarily what the majority of Eurovision Judges and viewers will enjoy.

Eurovision has always been a law unto itself where musicality is concerned but Niamh Kavanagh another contender has already experienced success. Winning in 1993 with 'In Your Eyes' the Irish obviously think her style may just be successful. However translating that success 17 years on is a questionable gamble. At the other end of the scale youngster Leanne Moore who won RTE show, 'You're A Star' and is yet to release her first album could offer some freshness and a more current sound. Lee Bradshaw from men2B has good looks on his side, but that has never featured as the mark of a Eurovision winner.
As for Monika, well however talented she may be and however attractive will the Irish really select someone called Ivkic to do battle for them in this arena?

Mikey Graham 4/6
Niamh Kavanagh 5/2
Leanne Moore 5/1
Lee Bradshaw 10/1
Monika Ivkic 12/1
