Betting On Britain's Got Talent 2011: Who Will Star At The Royal Variety Show?

For those fans of Specials Betting, the challenge is now on to sift through the auditions of 'Britain's Got Talent', spot the winner and take a long price early! This is certainly not an easy task, the show's producers will not linger too long on all the potential contenders otherwise they will have nothing to tempt the audience in as the show progresses, but should a spark appear they will certainly give air time to it to engender enthusiasm and a faithful following over the summer months. The successful punter will use all available nowse to seperate him/herself from the frenzy of the studio audience and keep an eye on the endgame, the judges influence and the acts who are the real winners with the TV viewers.  Bookmakers Paddy Power are already offering an Outright Winners market after only one audition show has been aired, but they also have a generic book offering the chance to gamble on the type of act that could succeed, an outcome which could be easier to assess.

One of the startling facts to remember when considering these dilemmas is that Susan Boyle who rose to international recognition overnight as a result of her audition, was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey and has recorded albums since, DID NOT WIN! 'The phenomenon', whoever may inherit that title this year, may be overridden on the eventual outcome as the old British concept of fairplay and love of the underdog can sway many a viewer and hence the bookmakers market.  Time after time on reality shows where the public vote is key, the technically compelling will fall at the last hurdle in favour of the personable, humerous and challenged.  However it is also true, as if more confusion were needed, that favourites can and have started as such at the beginning and followed through to the end.  Matt Cardle on last year's X Factor was certainly a case in point, but then he was blessed with both likeable character traits and ability!

So having outlined the minefields of this endeavour, the fun begins.  With the new judges panel of Michael McIntyre, David Hasselhoff and Amanda Holden installed, buzzers at the ready, the nation waits to be dazzled by brilliance and embarassed by awkward endeavour.  Saturday night had its first moment of sparkle when Michael Collings bedecked in sweat pants and orange hoodie, of what can only be described as 'not a frail or puny physique' took to the stage with his guitar.  Holden could be heard to mutter that he looked as if he was dressed for a long haul flight to which McIntyre added, " yes. Easy Jet", but as the CD began the audience's attention was swiftly drawn to a mesmeric voice with a compelling tone.  Understandably Collings now leads Paddy Power's Outright Winner market.  However, the pitfalls of a bet now are clear, there are many more auditions to take place and more Michael Collings' to be unearthed - or are there?

The other alternative, to bet on the genre that will win is a good opportunity.  The top ranking favourites, Solo singer, Dance Group and Solo Dancer herald from past winners of the show and would seem completely appropriate.  Whether McIntyre's inclusion on the panel lays the way for a comedian to make a play for the £100,000 prize is a good question but with his extraordinary command of the genre and his stellar rise in the past two years , any rising humourists might pale by comparison.  One dead cert is that Ant and Dec will continue to present like Bill and Ben on speed and continue to transform moments of sheer embarassment into entertainment!
