The Tour De France is into its final week and Andy Schleck heads the betting as the cyclists move on to a gruelling final stint in the Alps. Bet 365 bookmakers price Schleck at an industry best of 19/10 to win his first ever title, while three time champion Alberto Contador still has plenty to do and has now drifted out to 3/1, with current yellow jersey holder, Thomas Voeckler, a 17/2 chance.
Voeckler has raised hopes of a first French champion since 1985 and at the very least a first French podium finish since 1997. Voeckler has continued to upset the betting by holding on to the yellow jersey after three days in the Pyrenees. The Frenchman currently heads the times with 65 hours, 24 minutes and 34 seconds, and he is very much the man to beat at this stage.
He has admitted he doesn't think he will win the Tour De France outright with some tough climbing still to come in the Alps, but he has given himself every chance of being in the mix heading into the final week of this fascinating test on two wheels.
It is Franck Schleck of Luxembourg who is currently nearest to Voeckler in the times as he is just one minute and 49 seconds back and he is priced 14/1 to win the Tour De France by B365.
But it is Schleck's brother, Andy, who is the bookmakers' favourite at the moment as the man who has finished runner up to Contador in the past two years bids to go one better. He was well fancied before the race started and has now pushed himself ahead of Contador in the betting, although he would have wanted more of an advantage from Australian Cadel Evans after the Pyrenees.
Schleck is 2 mins, 15 seconds back from Voeckler, while Evans is nine seconds ahead of Schleck at this stage and he is second favourite at 21/10 in the betting with Bet365.com. Evans is a dual runner up himself, in 2008 and 2009, and we fancy he could be the man to take the yellow jersey this year. There is still the 42.5km individual time trial to come on Saturday and that is a part of the Tour that the Australian is expected to excel in.
Three time winner Contador will also be hoping to make up plenty of time this week as the 3/1 shot attempts to shake off a knee injury. He has been far from his barnstorming best so far thanks to the injury he picked up at stage eight, and the Giro D'Italia winner has admitted he isn't as fresh as he was in Italy in May.
Contador has vowed to attack the Alps as he bids to make up four minutes on Voeckler, although Cadel Evans could prove to be the man to beat as the Tour reaches an exciting conclusion.
19/10 Andy Schleck
21/10 Cadel Evans
3/1 Alberto Contador
17/2 Thomas Voeckler
14/1 Frank Schleck
20/1 Ivan Basso
40/1 Samuel Sanchez
