Last weekend saw the goliath of TV reality shows come to a climax as the X Factor finals broadcast to 20 million viewers. This weekend sees its nearest competitor in the Autumn schedules Strictly Come Dancing concluding it's competition too. Although not winning the ratings war this year, Strictly is a seriously important programme for the BBC, helped in no small part in this series by the presence of Ann Widdecombe. Betting on the Strictly Come Dancing Final however, is no easier to call than its rival. Matt Baker has only slipped from pole position once throughout the series, much in the same way that Matt Cardle held the front on the X Factor but there are other issues to take into consideration here. Of the three remaining contestants Baker appears to be head and shoulders above the rest, but can Pamela Stephenson and Kara Tointon Knock Matt off his pedestal?
Bookmakers Paddy Power have Matt at 4/7 to win, with Kara Tointon not far behind at 13/8 and Pamela Stephenson sitting at the back at 15/2. Whilst the judges will inevitably make every attempt to influence the viewers' decisions the presence of celebrity in the proceedings makes the procedure slightly different from the X Factor. Chris Hollins last year, whilst not the best dancer succeeded through his personality and humility, this year may well be subject to the same thinking.
Odds Comparison From All The Leading Bookmakers
Ex Eastender Kara Tointon has shown unrivalled elegance and aptitude for both the Latin and Ballroom disciplines but up until now she has almost been expected to do well and the public whilst appreciative, seem to have expected nothing but the best from her. What may have helped her recently however, is the readily reported and now personally acknowledged, romance between her and her dance partner Artem Chigvintsev. Christmas is known to abound in sentiment and tinsel, so what better time for the viewers to, cupid-like, seal a happy ending by crowning Kara champion?
Paddy Power seem in no doubt that Kara and Pamela will fail at the last hurdle with odds of 4/7 that a man will win the final and odds of 4/1 that Matt will go out first. Pamela Stephenson has been however the only contestant to achieve maximum points so far and has come so far in her dancing that it is hard to believe that Joe public will not reward her. At 61, she is one of the oldest competitors but has never used the age card to defend her ability on the dancefloor.
Clearly the show will be a crowd pleaser, with Bruce Forsyth, Tess Daly, judges Tonioli, Revel Horwood, Dixon and Goodman squeezing as much drama out of the proceedings to secure another contract next year, but who will end up pleasing the crowd? This is a close call but reassuringly it will not be Widdecombe and Du Beke, the silly season is over!
