Brit Award Odds: Cheryl Cole Favourite To Best Female

The Awards season is already building apace as we march into 2011, the Golden Globes nominees already cruising around the interview circuit to garner support for their films and stars and before we know it the Brit Awards will be on us again. Bookmakers Paddy Power, in their Brit Awards Odds have National treasure Cheryl Cole favourite to win the Best British Female Gong at 11/10.

The ceremony will take place on friday 14th February, which will no doubt give the producers ample opportunity to play the Valentines card. The nominees this year centre on safety rather than real innovation, perhaps reflecting a nation's need for comfort and reassurance in a time of social and economic upheaval. Cole will certainly be relieved to win the Brit after what has been a challenging 2010, not only as a result of her near death experience with malaria but also the near fatal career storm over her contentious dismissal of Gamu Nhengu in the X Factor. The star and her fans will certainly breathe a sigh of relief if she were to win, although her bandmates from Girls Aloud may not feel so assured of their future career paths.

This year the actual Brit Awards themselves appear in redesigned form, after a revamp was felt necessary, and a Bodacea type statue was commissioned from fashion legend Vivienne Westwood. It is intruiging, but slightly inevitable, that Take That are out and out favourites to win the Best British Group category at 2/9. Nostalgia is hugely comforting at a time of economic recession and the potency of Robbie Williams rejoining his band mates has been welcomed by the nation. Barlow's expertise at writing and composing has found new legs and Robbie's vocals flesh out the new grown up sound.

Plan B look set to win the Best British Single category with 'She Said' as 3/1 favourite, again a very British sounding track, with the more mid atlantic phrasing of Tinie Tempah close behind at 10/3 with 'Pass Out'. Year on year the Brits have sought to elevate the production of the show from bohemian mediocrity to slick, glossy international market place and clearly hope this will be achieved in some part by including an appearance from Rihanna, who is tipped to win an international gong.

Should Cheryl Cole and Take That succeed at the end of the day, David Cameron will have a more malleable populus to work with, although the real musos may not be as happy with the country's musical dynamism!
