Now that the hullaballoo around the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge aka William and Kate and their first state visit to Canada is finally dying down, the country can turn their attention to their understudy's Victoria and David Beckham. Although Victoria was not the designer of Kate's dress for the BAFTA Gala in Los Angeles, as predicted on the Betting Directory, the birth of their daughter and fourth child has led to a market with bookmakers Paddy Power on what the child will be christened. Interest of this sort in a baby's birth means that whilst they cannot claim Royal heritage, in the world of celebrity the Beckhams are still in the Premiership!
The birth is again by elective caesarean so even the date can be marked in the diary and there is no inconvenient untimely disruption of the couples schedule. The name that they are likely to choose will undoubtedly reflect their ambition to lead fashion at every opportunity. Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz are certainly not the sort of names that their parents would have embraced, but citing that their son Brooklyn was so named because it was the place of his conception lead to a countrywide trend of children named afterexotic summer holiday locations.
It may be that now that Victoria and David have moved away from the pop world and the footballers' wives influences that they may do a complete U turn and move back to a more traditional name. Rubbing up against the Royal family as they are now, they were invited to the wedding and David was involved with William in the bid for the FIFA World Cup, they may sense a need to tame their 'brand ' and be a little more discerning.
Whilst 'Pippa' does appear as an option at 10/1 and 'Kate/Katie' at 16/1, that sort of sycophancy would be seen as rather inappropriate, whereas favourite 'Holly' at 15/8 covers all bases. Hopefully they will not saddle their offspring with 'Star' at 25/1! With a name like that in a family like the Beckhams, the child would have just too much to live up to. Could Victoria at 33/1 be the traditional English name they are looking for? As a first name it would seem unlikely, but as a middle name it surely must be a front runner!
