Boris Johnson's Bike Scheme: Bet On First Celebrity To Be Snapped On One

Love him or hate him like Marmite, Boris Johnson certainly keeps London in the headlines with his displays of buffoonery, exemplified lately by his wobbly trip around the Olympic velodrome. Much like an out of place Dickensian Mayor his forthright and often bumbling style skillfully hides what many acknowledge as a very sharp mind and his support of London's new bicycle hire scheme is a case in point. London has lagged behind Paris and Holland for years in not supplying an environmentally friendly cheap mode of transport but now with Barclays on board as sposors, Boris Johnson's bike scheme, whilst having experienced a number of teething problems, looks set to stay. Bookmakers Paddy Power, aware of the publicity the scheme is drawing, is offering a bet on the first celebrity to be snapped on one of the blue and grey bicycles.

Clearly the scheme will be trumpeted by the environmentalists and in an age when the size of an individuals carbon footprint is regularly discussed, it will surely not be long before a publicist or agent suggests their ward gets on the bandwagon and has their photo taken on one of Barclays' bikes.
