General Election Betting - What No Cheryl Cole ?

As the nation turns its attention to weighty matters of the day, like who will slip up next in the Dancing On Ice Stakes, who will triumph at The Brits and The Oscars, who will be Brad Pitts Next Squeeze, rumours abound that our focus should really be on who will in fact be governing the country in the coming year?

Yes we are about to hit General Election time and the bookmakers are offering a wide range of betting options.  There will be rafts of information available in the national press, it will become difficult to avoid, but the discerning punter should concentrate on the facts and not be effected by spin, not the easiest of challenges. Bets range from the simplest, Who Will Win, to Individual Constituency betting, Cabinet members, Next Chancellor Of The Exchequer and much to Gordon Brown's chagrin, should he happen upon any bookmaker's websites, Next Leader Of The Labour Party!  David Cameron might have a flutter on that one to boost party funds.

One of the most intriguing categories is the Percentage Turnout on the fateful day.  History tells us that at the 1997 General Election, where there was a real sense that there would be a change of government 71.4% of the electorate turned out.  In 2001 when Blair was comfortably ensconced in Number 10 the total dropped to 59.54% and in 2005 as dissatisfaction over Iraq was increasing 61.4% of those eligible to cast their vote turned out.

History does not however always repeat itself, there are many factors to consider including the public's political apathy at the present time and whether Gordon Brown, as the Nations's favourite bumbling but trustworthy uncle who has guided us through the worst banking crisis in history, may actually seem more attractive than Cameron, or Blair Mark 2!

Whilst there are numerous categories available in General Election Betting, it is entirely surprising given her presence in almost every betting opportunity from The Brits, FHM's Sexiestand even Brad Pitt's Next Squeeze, that Cheryl Cole is not nominated for Next Prime Minister!  Looks like the spin doctors and party machines are really missing a trick!  Watch this space !
