In 2001 when Blair was comfortably ensconced in Number 10 the total dropped to 59.54% and in 2005 as dissatisfaction over Iraq was increasing 61.4% of those eligible to cast their vote turned out.

History does not however always repeat itself, there are many factors to consider including the public's political apathy at the present time and whether Gordon Brown, as the Nations's favourite bumbling but trustworthy uncle who has guided us through the worst banking crisis in history, may actually seem more attractive than Cameron, or Blair Mark 2!
