FHM's Sexiest Woman 2012 Odds: Pippa Middleton In Third Place

Bookmakers Paddy Power are currently running 116 novelty markets, on the back of last weeks election and referendum results there have been several markets added regarding British politics, also as if by antidote to the gravitas in the British parliament there are still options on The Royal Wedding betting although the lead story of Osama Bin Laden's death would seem to have overwhelmed the pomp and high jinks of only a week ago.  The story that has however trended most highly after the Royal Wedding has not been the reason for the delayed honeymoon or the whereabouts of the couple for the weekend after their wedding , but what will happen to the Duchess of Cambridge's sister now that she has captured the nation, indeed the international media with her grace and good looks.  Catherine Middleton was certainly a bonny bride, in a classically designed dress who did not put a foot wrong during the course of what must have been extremely pressured circumstances, but her sister as matron of honour managed to trump her.

The public and press alike love to be surprised, especially in a world where every nook and cranny is usually excavated so the fact that Pippa Middleton's stage presence and beauty had been so cleverly concealed made her transition onto the public stage even more extraordinary. The Alexander McQueen dress was certainly a help in her entrance and her apparent ease with the rebel Prince Harry as she walked behind the bride and groom also showed her willingness to enjoy a chuckle or two.

Consequently the journos and trend setters and bookies having been caught sleeping before the wedding are now embracing the Pippa Middleton effect with gusto.  Paddy Power, mindful of this situation are already opening a book on FHM's sexiest woman of 2012, even though we are still in the first part of 2011, and have Pippa at odds of 6/1 to win, just ahead of the future Queen, her sister at 8/1.  For someone to come from no where and to be sitting in third place behind Katie Perry and Rihanna is quite extraordinary but does pay homage to the billions of viewers that watched The Royal Wedding Show and how a moment fuelled with pomp and emotion can turn the heads of nation's.

However there is a word of caution to be interjected here, whilst Pippa certainly caught the eye of the world in a triumphant entrance she could just as easily leave the stage with a whimper. Had she been a singer ready to launch her next album or a movie star with a film to promote her PR people would have been ecstatic.  As it is if she slides back into obscurity and the family business wth only the rarest photo of her in public, when FHM's sexiest Woman is voted for next year it could well be a case of Pippa who?  Of course her sister's royal position will maintain the spotlight on the family, but it must not be forgotten that William is second in line to the throne and there is ample time for many lines of history to be written with his Father and the Duchess Of Cornwall and of course the hunt to find a suitable bride for Harry.  His current girlfriend Chlsy Davy does appear on the list but at 40/1 William must feel very chuffed that he spotted the 6/1 and 8/1 options! And Cheryl Cole?  Well of course Cheryl is still on the list, but for the first time in 3 years she is back in sixth place and her impending move to the U.S. X Factor may lose her valuable PR points and Blighty enthusiasm!
