Dancing On Ice Betting Kicks Off Reality 2012 Markets

No sooner has the engraving on the two top reality trophies been completed than the New Year ushers in the next competitions. Dancing On Ice hosted as usual by the super slick Philip Schofield, ushers in the new challenge for those celebrities seeking to revive their careers. The Dancing On Ice producers made a good decision last year to include Denise Walsh, for her popularity on ITV’s Loose Women brought a raft of new viewers to the programme. Obviously any celebrity who takes on this challenge has to be confident or desperate. Learning to dance on Strictly Come Dancing is difficult enough and for some celebrities reputed to be life changing, but factor in the unforgiving surface of an ice rink and any contender has to be brave.

This year’s list of contenders do not immediately excite or enthrall, in fact they are not gossip column or red top regulars, so it must have been harder to attract any big names this year or the coffers were not substantial enough in these tricky economic times. Bookmakers Paddy Power are already sure of the potential winner with Matthew Wolfenden starting out as 10/3 favourite and by contrast the Eastenders actress Laila Morse at odds of 5/2 to go first. In fact there was a story on the internet today that bookmakers William Hill had only taken two bets on Morse winning, one for 50p and one for £1 which had made her the most unpopular contestant in the programme’s history.

This sort of publicity could however work to Laila’s advantage. Looking at unlikely Strictly candidates like Anne Widdecombe and John Sargent who whilst they were never likely to win drew enormous popular support as the series evolved simply because they were game and likeable. As the likeable wheeler dealer rouge in Eastenders it is quite possible that Laila will not be the first to go but will be kept by the public to prove their power over the venerable judging panel.
