So, Cat Deeley's first expedition into dance presenting has nearly reached its conclusion with the final of So You Think You Can Dance airing next Saturday 13th February. One contestant will wake up feeling all the love of Valentine's day, the other three will hope their performances in the past weeks have caught the eyes of sufficient choreographers to accelerate their careers.
The four remaining contestants, two guys Tommy and Robbie and two girls Charlie and Lizzy, will perform individually and in new couples in The Final and Judges Nigel Lythgoe, Arlene Phillips, Louise Redknapp and Sisco Gomez no longer have any voting power over the outcome. The decision is entirely made by the public vote, but no doubt their vociferous comments will be designed to influence the outcome.
The winner not only secures a prize of £100,000 but also a chance to dance in Hollywood. What form this dance in Hollywood might take does not seem entirely clear but the £100,000 should keep any dancer off the streets for a while until the next round of humiliating chorus line auditions begins! As the first of this US series to be aired in the Uk, every effort will surely be made by the producers to ensure the winner has a high profile in order to secure future interest, higher standards of competitors and a commission for another show next year.

Jazz dancer Charlie,at 19 the youngest contestant and Swedish Hip Hop speciaist Tommy, are spearheading the competition at the moment, with Tommy edging ahead. Charlie's naive sexiness mixed with enthusiastic acrobatics has seen her lead the pack for a while now but Tommy's skills, timing and precision are hypnotising the audience.
At this point it is essential for anyone placing a bet to remember the make up of those watching. The public vote is all that counts in the Final and women are not only more likely to watch the show but are much more likely to pick up the phone. If, as in Leona Lewis's case, the talent is so overwhelming, a woman can still win the women's vote, but if the gap between two contestants is small, male contenders often do better.
Tommy has already used his personality and talent to win a sizeable fan base so it looks perfectly reasonable that he could secure the crown provided that it all goes well on the night.
If Tommy and Charlie are paired together, the resulting psychology is a minefield. Wanting to win individually but also not wanting your partner to look better than you would be a real conflict and could lead to potential nerve spawned disaster.
Gangly Robbie and captivating Lizzie could just sparkle so much in their last dances that they create an unexpected outcome but most viewers build loyalty towards their favourites and are rarely swayed by one bad performance.
