Britain's Got Talent comes to its climax tonight, during a series which until now has had little controversy. The new judging panel has worked, Hasselhoff's ignorance of the English idiom has been overcome, Michael McIntyre has been expectedly pallatable and Amanda Holden has taken well to her role in the chair, in fact whilst there has been no controversy , there has not been the same level of excitement or suspense either, until now. Coincidentally or obviously, to those conspiracists out there, the only drama to arise has come with Simon Cowell's return to the show.
Accusations have been levelled at Syco that favourite Ronan Parke was spotted by them some time ago and his progress through the auditions engineered for his success. Simon Cowell is protesting all over the place, running to the lawyers offices with cries of libel, but how will the whole episode effect the outcome?
12 year old Ronan dazzled the judges on his first audition with his effortless vocals and the control and demeanour of someone far older. Similarily his semi final execution of one of Adele s singles was a masterpiece of tone and expression. Bookmakers Paddy Power still have him at odds of 4/6 to win the show ahead of New Bounce at 9/2 but could the telephone voters be swayed into thinking that a vote for Ronan is a vote for Simon and therefore something to be avoided? The leading acts this year are both juveniles and singers so it may be that the sympathy will fall with New Bounce as the underdog's, although Ronan's charm and talent does feel worthy of the winner of this year's show.
In past series the dance group's have had a prominent position, but his year they were few and far between, it has been the vocalists that have really dominated the competition. Roumanian dancer Razy Gogonea has been a spell binder and James Hobley's back story a real tear jerker, but viewers are unlikely to crown a Roumanian with their domestic prize and whilst admirable will not be sufficiently mesmerized by James.
The only thing to remember in this book is that Susan Boyle, whilst having caused an international news wave, didn't actually win first prize! Jai McDowell could be worth a punt at 7/1 with the effect that all the controversy could have on viewers voting patterns.
