Finally Nancy Dell'Olio has left the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom having found herself in the bottom two on Sunday night with Audley Harrisonand despite making as many appearances as possibleon TV to court the public's favour. She was certainly not the worst dancer, but would have been better advised to have improved her linguistic skills and moderated her self confidence. In all these reality shows the modesty and good humour of those participating is paramount, which any punter embarking on a gamble in this genre would do well to remember.
In Paddy Power's Winners' market Harry Judd and Jason Donovan continue to battle it out at 2/1 and 15/8 respectively. After a poorer performance last week Jason came back and rose once again to the top of the pile, but judge Len Goodman said in no uncertain terms on camera that Harry Judd was the best dancer he had ever seen in the competition. Whilst the judges'comments are not the only basis on which the voters make their decision, the likeable Goodman certainly will have some influence on their judgement.
The judges' opinions can often have the reverse effect on the viewers especially when it seems that their sense of humour and fun has been overtaken by their rigid adherence to the ballroom rules. Anne Widdecombe, last year, and John Sargent previously, were panned by the judging panel week on week but they were kept in by a public who first and foremost want to be entertained on a Saturday night. craig Revel Horwood has always played the villain of the piece, highlighting every missed step or every illegal lift, but in much the same way as the baddie in panto is often ignored, his opinion is often ignored in the voting patterns.
Harry Judd and Jason Donovan benefit from being technically good, modest and also have the judges praise, so it looks like they are destined for the end game. Of the other remaining competitors Holly valance and Chelsee Heeley continue to improve, but will really have to up their technical game to win the show. Both women are likeable and are clearly working hard at their technique, but Judd and Donovan have set the bar very high for them to traverse.
Judge Bruno Tonioli has an infectious ebullient style and his enthusiasm for Robbie Savage who sits at fifth place in this market at 8/1 reflects popular opinion that the bad boy of football is infinetly watchable and entertaining. Of those at the top of the leaderboard this week, Savage could overtake those who are technically more adept with his dramatic interpretations but will be hard pushed to knock the two top guys off their pedestal.
