Clearly the producers of Big Brother are pulling out all the stops to create dynamism and surprise in the final series of the monalith of reality TV. This week the shopping task has required all the inmates to ignore any strange activity that goes on in the house, whereas In years past the formula relied heavily on the pressure exerted on the inmates by having no contact with the outside world. In an endeavour to explode this expectation, the house has been full of relatives, school friends, a brass band and even the infamous duo Jedward, which the contestants have had to ignore. The theme of this year's show has been 'Circus' and whilst ratings are falling, the circus element has certainly been achieved this week. Real concentration and application has been required to block out the distractions and so only the most earnest and eager to win the title have succeeded in this challenge. Clearly it is no surprise that bookmakers' Paddy Power in their Big Brother Winner Betting, note that Corin is Edging in front of Bristolian Josie after her tunnel visioned performance.

Ben failed miserably to enter into the spirit of this week's task and paid the price by being evicted on Friday, whilst Corin, who seems so desperate to win the show, endured a torrent of custard pies whilst in the diary room chair without a whimper. Whilst her gameness has pushed her to the front at 6/4 ahead of Australian John James at 11/4, her keenness to please may soon pall on viewers in the same way that a teachers pet does not garner favour over time.

Josie and John James' success is completely intwined, The former completely infatuated by the Beckham lookalike and the latter confused by the bond and attraction he has formed with the plain speaking Bristolian. John James seems to be thoroughly likeable and decent but one wrong move or word captured on tape will see him quickly ostracized by the viewers.

Newcomer and Geek Andrew has done well as a late entrant, winning votes for regularly stepping out of his comfort zone but he too could easily fall from grace with the amount of coverage he is now getting. Early leader Mario has fallen back to 14/1 with a quiet couple of weeks, but should not be discounted to make a late charge to the line, especially now that Ben has left.

Corin is certainly in the lead at the moment but with substantial time still to negotiate it will be those who are holding this place nearer the end who will be most likely to collect the £100,00 prize. John James if consisten,t looks more capable of winning over what is largely a female audience. Whoever wins, Davina McCall has only a few more weeks as ringmaster and is sure to be preparing for a dramatic finale to seal the end of the phenomenon that has dominated our screens for the last 10 summers.
