Pop star Rihanna is set for a publicity storm this month. The red haired singer whose popularity is gaining momentum week on week is adorning the front covers of two magazines in April, which has inevitably coaxed the guys at bookmakers Paddy Power to offer a market on her next potential beau, although limiting the numbers of volunteers for this position must have been a challenge!
Vogue and Rolling Stone are the two publications which have decided that their circulation will be improved with cover photos of Rihanna, although inevitably each magazine has taken an entirely different approach. Clearly her PR and marketing team are not worried by over kill and have employed two entirely different images. The famous photographer Annie Leibovitz was responsible for the Vogue pictures, which embody all the glamour and couture of vintage Hollywood whereas Rolling Stone has the star wearing very skimpy metal mesh shorts accompanied by a revealing interview about her sex life thus clearly aiming at a different demographic.
Rihanna is without doubt one of the hottest properties in show business at the moment and after lifting the restraining order on her ex Chris Brown, a poignant signifier that she is ready to move on from that well recorded painful time in her personal life, there will be many eager to capture the biggest of prizes in showbiz, personally and professionally.
At the top of thePaddy Power list is Irish heart throb Colin Farrell at 1/3, who she met on the Graham Norton show in November 2010, and clearly ruffled the actor's feathers. The rumour/gossipmongers have been speculating for some time that this meeting has led to a more romantic liason, although it has been denied on several occasions by both camps that their meetings at various restaurants including Giorgio Baldi have been nothing more than coincidence. Chris Brown does sit in second place at 5/2, but it would be a dangerous PR move if her show of forgiveness in lifting the restraining order morphed into the folly of taking back the man that obviously caused her so much pain and that she so bravely talked about to her fans. Although Amy Winehouse and others have proved that popstars do not always make safe choices about their relationships.
Simon Cowell and the X Factor triumphed this year when then secured an appearance by Rihanna on their final show, where her duet with eventual winner Matt Cardle was widely reported as the highlight of the show with all the apparent sexual chemistry on display. At 25/1 Matt Cardle appears on the book, but whilst vocally talented his likeable naivety would seem no match for the American siren and whilst the empressario Cowell also makes an appearance at 33/1, the phrases'cat's chance' and 'hell' come rushing to mind. Anyway isn't he supposed to be getting married ?? Perhaps Paddy Power will soon be offering a market on this !
