Back Shaun Murphy to cover the handicap in his Crucible quarter final with Anthony McGill
28th & 29th April - World Snooker Championship Quarter Finals
The World Snooker Championship has reached the last-eight stage and Ronnie O'Sullivan remains the bookmakers' favourite ahead of his next clash with Stuart Bingham. Our pre-tournament tip, Shaun Murphy, is still going strong as he takes on 'giant killer' Anthony McGill on Tuesday morning and we will start our quarter-final preview with that match...
Tues 28th April, 10.05am - Anthony McGill v Shaun Murphy
McGill ensured the 'Crucible Curse' continued in Sheffield as he knocked out 2014 World Champion Mark Selby, who became the 16th first-time champion to fail to defend his title at the Crucible. This might be a bridge too far for McGill though as no qualifier has reached the semi-finals since Judd Trump four years ago and Shaun Murphy has arguably been the form player in the world this year. The 2005 world champion is playing the best snooker of his career after completing the 'Triple Crown' earlier this season and it bodes well that he has won all three of his previous meetings with McGill, including in the last-32 of the China Open earlier this month. The draw has opened up nicely for Murphy and the winner of this match will meet either Neil Robertson or Barry Hawkins in the semi-finals.
Tip #1: Shaun Murphy to win with a -3.5 frame handicap @ 10/11 with Ladbrokes.
Tues 28th April, 10.05am - Ding Junhui v Judd Trump
The second quarter-final to start on Thursday morning sees Ding Junhui take on Judd Trump. It is arguably the toughest match of the last-eight to call as Ding has overcome Mark Davis and John Higgins to find some form following a disastrous year, while Trump has beaten Stuart Carrington and Marco Fu to maintain the resurgence that has seen him win two televised titles already this year. It is worth noting that Ding has fallen 4-0 and 5-1 behind in his two matches at the Crucible so far and we like the look of Trump to win the first session at 6/4 with Bet 365. The Chinese star may hold the edge 6-5 in head-to-head meetings but the pair haven't met since the 2014 German Masters and Trump's efforts during 2015 ensure he starts favourite.
Tip #2: Judd Trump to win the first session @ 6/4 with Bet 365.
Tues 28th April, 2.35pm - Neil Robertson v Barry Hawkins
Neil Robertson has thrashed Jamie Jones and Ali Carter en route to the last-eight and the 2010 World Champion has been in prolific form, firing off seven century breaks (including a 143 and a 145). The Australian is edging closer to a third maximum break of his professional career and Bet 365 go 25/1 for there to be a 147 in this match with Barry Hawkins, who amassed his first maximum in January. Hawkins has notched up three centuries during the tournament so far and Bet 365 go 8/13 for over 2.5 centuries in this tie, although the outcome of the match is harder to call as Hawkins has won their last two meetings, albeit Robertson has won 7, drawn 1 and lost 5 of their 13 meetings overall.
Tip #3: Over 2.5 centuries in the match @ 8/13 with Bet 365.
Tues 28th April, 2.35pm - Ronnie O'Sullivan v Stuart Bingham
Ronnie O'Sullivan has cruised into the last-eight with wins over Craig Steadman and Matthew Stevens but not all seems well with a man who played his first round match without any shoes on. 'Rocket' loves causing a stir but he keeps on producing the goods as he has racked up four tons thus far and Paddy Power offer 5/6 for there to be over 16.5 breaks of 50 or more in this match with Stuart Bingham, who has scored four hundreds in wins over Robbie Williams and Graeme Dott. Bingham has won just 2 of 13 previous meeting with O'Sullivan and he was on the end of a 6-0 thrashing when they met at the World Grand Prix earlier this year.
Tip #4: Over 16.5 breaks of 50+ @ 5/6 with Paddy Power.
