Mark Selby winner of the recent UK Masters at Wembley Arena now takes on the challenge of the Welsh Open this week where he is amongst the favourites to win. The last time he won this event came in 2008, when coincidentally he had just won the Masters. He will be hoping that ‘lightning can strike twice’ as he looks to achieve a repeat of that feat.
Favourite, almost needless to say is ‘Rocket’ Ronnie O’Sullivan, runner up to Selby at Wembley last week and who can be backed at 7/2, next best is John Higgins at 6/1 followed by Selby at 7/1. These odds are supplied by Bet365.
O’Sullivan, who looked far and away the best player in the world at Wembley up until the latter stages of the final at least, should be keen to get a win under his belt. He has won this tournament twice before in 2004 and 2005 and was runner up to Selby in 2008, which by his standards is not a great record, but one that he would like to improve. The ‘Rocket’ cues off in the first round against Stuart Bingham, who is ranked 21 in the world and whom he beat in the opening round of the 2009 World Championship 10-5 at the Crucible. O’Sullivan is 1/5 odds on to win this match, while Bingham is a 4/1 shot.

Reigning champion Ali Carter is currently ranked at number five in the world and we think is a good bet to go close again here. He is one of the biggest improvers on the snooker circuit and with odds of 20/1 from Bet 365 we think that at price he is hard to ignore.
Another player we like the look of is Welshman Mark Williams, who has done well to get himself back where belongs in the world’s top 16. Williams showed excellent form when reaching the semi-final at the Masters, where he lost 6-5 to O’Sullivan in a match that could have gone either way. Williams is seemingly enjoying the game once again and there would be nowhere better to get his first comeback win than in his home country. He is currently a 12/1 shot to win the tournament, also with B365 ahead of his opening game against Fergal O’Brien.
