2015 UK Snooker Championship Preview: Robertson to shine in York
2015 UK Snooker Championship - 24th October - 6th December
Ronnie O'Sullivan's decision to not compete for a sixth UK Snooker Championship title over the next couple of weeks has certainly thrown the snooker ranking tournament wide open, as a stellar field, bar the Rocket, will assemble at the Barbican Centre, York, for what will be a stunning tournament on the baize.
Judd Aims To Trump His Rivals On Big Stage
Judd Trump knows what it takes to hold aloft this prestigious trophy, as in 2011 he edged out Mark Allen 10-8 to land the coveted prize, and with the aforementioned O'Sullivan not taking his place in the field then the Bristolian has been installed as the 6/1 favourite with Betfred to win the tournament for the second time.
The 26-year-old Ace could well have a relatively smooth path through the early stages of the tournament, and with only Shaun Murphy, Mark Williams and Kyren Wilson looking his major dangers in the second quarter, then the 13/8 with Sky Bet to win that quarter could be value to punters, but having not tasted success in finals this season he could be one to avoid at the prices.
Thunder Ready To Strike At Barbican
Neil Robertson is another former winner of this event, as the Australian superstar beat Mark Selby 10-7 in the 2013 final, and if the Thunder from Down Under is in tip-top form then he could well mark much more attractive value at 6/1 with bet365, and could well be the outright bet for the competition.
A 10-5 winner over Mark Allen (22/1) only a couple of weeks ago in the Champion Of Champions, Robertson will head to Yorkshire in fine form, and with the in-form John Higgins (16/1) and Stephen Maguire (33/1) his only likely rivals in the third quarter then the Aussie star can breeze to the latter stages before turning on the after burners to land the event.
Solid Selby Always A Danger
2012 winner Mark Selby is always a name to etch into the shortlist when previewing these big tournaments and the Jester from Leicester is available at 15/2 with Sky Bet to land the prize, but whilst his consistency will see him venture into the latter stages, he could just falter against Robertson's huge scoring and it's hard to see him landing a blow to win his second UK crown.
128-Runner Field Makes For Drama
The new format has certainly added spice to the earlier rounds of snooker tournaments and with the top-128 players alll fighting out on a plethora of tables in the first round then there are sure to be some shocks along the way and Alfie Burden at 4/1 with Betfred could give Ali Carter a tough time in their first round match.
Other early clashes that could be worth a second look include Barry Pinches, who at 11/4 could well give Mark Joyce a tight contest, with fan's favourite Jimmy White as big as 17/2 with BetVictor to down the abovementioned Maguire, who will fancy kicking off with a comfortable win against the whirlwind.
